The Antler Residency in Dubai is a free, full-time, 10-week programme for people who want to start a company, even without a co-founder or a fixed idea. It now runs from Dubai Founders HQ, where Antler set up its UAE headquarters in February 2026. Teams that pass Antler's investment committee at the end receive $180,000 via a SAFE for 11% equity, with up to $320,000 more in follow-on funding available.
The catch is that the residency is not the investment. Antler says 20–35% of founders in each residency historically receive investment. This guide covers the application stages, what the 11% means for your cap table, and how to judge whether it's the right route.

How the Residency Came to Dubai Founders HQ
Antler ran its first two Dubai residencies with the Dubai Future Foundation at the AREA 2071 facility in Emirates Towers. The 2025 cohort, the second, selected 96 founders from more than 10,000 applicants from 39 nationalities, with a focus on AI startups.
In February 2026, Dubai Founders HQ signed a multi-year partnership with Antler. The residency now runs from the Dubai Founders HQ campus, where Antler has its UAE headquarters. The partnership aims to upskill more than 600 founders. Our guide to Dubai Founders HQ covers the other programmes on the same campus.
Who Can Apply
Antler looks for people, not companies. Its target profiles include returning founders, business leaders, tech and product leaders, domain experts and early-stage operators. It says it wants creative problem-solvers with drive and grit.
What you don't need:
- A co-founder. Solo founders can join, and many find one during the residency.
- A finished idea. The residency starts from day zero.
- An existing company or revenue.
Grey Areas Antler's Page Answers
- Solo after the residency. You can start solo, but Antler prefers to invest in teams of two or three with complementary skills.
- Already raised money. Companies that have already raised outside equity may be ineligible. Startups past pre-seed are sent to a separate form.
- Expanding an existing company. Not eligible. Antler says it doesn't act as an expansion partner for established companies moving into the region.
- Visas. Antler doesn't sponsor visas. It can give you a letter confirming you're in the programme, but you need your own UAE visa.
- Focus. Your venture should target the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (MENAP) region.
The Application Stages
Antler's MENAP page sets out the process:
What the 11% Means for Your Cap Table
Antler invests $180,000 for 11% equity. That values the company at roughly $1.64 million after the investment.
A Worked Example (Hypothetical)
Two co-founders who split the company 50/50 each own 44.5% after Antler takes 11%. If they later raise a pre-seed round, every shareholder, including Antler, is diluted from there.
| Before Antler | After Antler | |
|---|---|---|
| Founder A | 50% | 44.5% |
| Founder B | 50% | 44.5% |
| Antler | — | 11% |
The follow-on of up to $320,000 isn't automatic. Antler says founders can "unlock" it, and describes it as uncapped. Ask how it's unlocked and on what terms before you sign the first SAFE.
Is 11% for $180,000 a good deal? It depends on what you'd do otherwise. For a first-time founder with no co-founder or idea, it buys a team, structure and a first cheque. For an experienced founder who already has a co-founder and traction, a pre-seed round on your own terms may cost less equity.
Timeline
| Stage | When |
|---|---|
| Application to offer | Info session plus several interviews; Antler doesn't publish a timeframe |
| Residency | 10 weeks, full-time |
| Investment committee | End of the residency |
| Dubai intake | Spring each year |
| Next Dubai start date | Not yet published |
Antler's cohort start dates page lists upcoming start dates for other cities but not yet for Dubai. Applying early still helps, because interviews take time.

Who Should Apply, and Who Shouldn't
Apply if you:
- Want to start a company but don't have a co-founder
- Can commit full-time and in person for 10 weeks
- Have deep experience in a field you want to build in
- Are comfortable giving 11% for a team, support and a first cheque
Look elsewhere if you:
- Already have a co-founder, an MVP and traction. You may get better terms raising directly.
- Run an established company that wants to expand into the UAE. Antler doesn't take these.
- Can't cover your own living costs and visa for 10 weeks without income.
- Need guaranteed funding. Most residents don't receive investment.
Common Mistakes
- Treating acceptance as funding. The investment comes only if your team passes the committee.
- Pitching a business, not yourself. Antler selects individuals before teams form. Show your experience, drive and how you solve problems.
- Ignoring the visa. Antler won't sponsor one. Sort out your UAE residency before the residency starts.
- Not budgeting for 10 weeks. It's full-time, unpaid, and in Dubai. Plan your savings first.
- Not asking about the follow-on. Get the terms for the $320,000 in writing.
