Dubai Future Accelerators is not a typical startup accelerator. It does not invest cash in participating companies, and the Dubai Future Foundation describes it as a 0% equity programme. Instead, it connects technology companies with Dubai government entities to work on real challenges and develop pilot solutions.
In 2026, the most relevant live application route is the Agentic AI for Government Services Accelerator, run by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI). DFF describes it as built on the DFA model. It focuses on companies that can build, test and deploy agentic AI services with Dubai Government entities.
This guide covers both: the DFA model and its track record since 2016, and the current DCAI route. That includes what the application asks for, what selected companies get, and what they don't.

What Is Dubai Future Accelerators?
DFA is an initiative of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF). DFF also runs Area 2071, the Dubai Future District Fund and the Museum of the Future. DFF describes DFA as bringing startups, private entities and government together to work on set challenges, with Dubai as a citywide testbed for new technology.
The key difference from a typical accelerator is who sets the agenda. A typical accelerator backs your company. DFA starts from a problem a government entity or corporate partner wants solved, then looks for companies that can solve it.
How the DFA Model Works
DFF's official DFA process has nine steps:
| Step | What Happens, per DFF | What It Means for Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| 1. The Challenge | A government or private-sector partner sets a challenge | You apply to solve their problem |
| 2. The Application | Startups and scale-ups apply with a solution | Your answer should map to the specific challenge |
| 3. The Selection | Applications are evaluated | Only selected companies move on |
| 4. The Invitation | Selected teams are invited to a cohort or programme | — |
| 5. Hello Dubai | Up to two team members are flown to Dubai, with flights and accommodation paid | Other costs are yours |
| 6. The Discovery | You meet the partner and explore opportunities | — |
| 7. The Collaboration | You work with the partner on the agreed pilot scope | — |
| 8. The Pitch | Your final proposal is pitched to the partner's decision-makers | — |
| 9. The Next Step | The partner selects the best proposal and pilot to move forward with a commercial agreement | Not guaranteed for every participant |
Throughout this guide, we keep four stages separate, because different things apply at each: applicant → selected participant → pilot company → commercial supplier.
DFA vs the Current DCAI Agentic AI Accelerator
The programme's format has changed significantly since the first DFA cohorts in 2016. Earlier cohorts used longer formats. The current DCAI programme, built on the DFA model, uses focused 2-week agentic AI build sprints.
| Period | Programme | Length | Team Members Covered | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2016–2020 | DFA cohorts 1–7, multiple government entities | 9 weeks (2018 description) | Up to 3 (2018 description) | DFA's 2018 programme description, archived on Crunchbase |
| 2020 | DFA 8th edition, run virtually and in Dubai | Not stated | Not stated | DFF release, September 2020 |
| 2025 | DCAI "Future of AI in Government Services", 2nd cycle | 8 weeks of sponsored travel and accommodation | Not stated | DCAI 2025 page |
| 2026 | DCAI Agentic AI for Government Services Accelerator | 2-week in-residence build sprint | Up to 2, both in leadership roles | DCAI page and application form |
If you've read "9 weeks" or "up to three team members" elsewhere, those figures describe earlier cohorts. DFF's current process page and the 2026 application form both say up to two.
What Does Dubai Mean by "Agentic AI"?
The 2026 application form defines agentic AI as systems that:
- pursue a goal over multiple steps
- plan and choose and call tools or APIs
- take action in external systems
- adapt based on results, with limited or checkpoint-based human intervention
The form states plainly that a chatbot that only answers questions is not agentic. Its example of an agentic system is one that reads a case file, checks three systems, drafts the decision and files it.
| Chatbot | Agentic System | |
|---|---|---|
| Flow | User asks → AI answers | Trigger → plan → access systems → act → check results → escalate if needed → complete task |
| Acts in other systems? | No | Yes: creates records, sends messages, files documents |
| Fits the 2026 DCAI track? | No; the form routes these applicants to other DFF programmes | Yes |
What Happens After Selection?
DCAI's page says every opportunity in the accelerator moves through four stages:
- Discover: identify priority government services where agentic AI can create clear public value.
- Design: design the service journey, agent architecture, workflows, data, integration and governance controls.
- Build: prototype with selected AI companies through focused sprints, then test and iterate.
- Deploy: pilot and monitor agent performance under independent assurance, then scale into live operation.
Digital Dubai and the Dubai Electronic Security Center support governance, security and integration readiness. Each cohort targets up to 10 agentic service blueprints and 5–8 prototypes tested and validated with government entities. That gives a rough sense of how many build slots a cohort has.
What Does the 2026 Application Ask For?
The live application form has five sections. It asks applicants to describe what is running today, not what is planned.
| Application Area | What You Need to Provide |
|---|---|
| Contact and founders | Your details, LinkedIn, and the names and LinkedIn profiles of all founders |
| Company | Legal name, HQ, market position, headcount, founding date, financing, runway, fundraising status |
| Agentic AI | Your flagship agentic workflow from trigger to outcome |
| Production | Autonomy level in live deployments today |
| Actions | Which external systems your agents act in, and how |
| Models | Which models power your agents |
| Performance and safety | Success rates or accuracy, error handling, escalation, audit trail, permissions, PII handling, prompt-injection defences |
| Deployment | SaaS, dedicated cloud, private cloud, on-premise, air-gapped, edge or hybrid |
| UAE fit | Data residency and Arabic language capability |
| Track record | Up to two case studies with measurable results, solution stage, deployment locations |
| Demo | A publicly accessible demo link or access credentials |
| Pilot | What you could credibly deliver in a 2-week pilot with a government entity |
| Documents | Business plan (max 10 MB) plus up to 5 supporting files |
Dubai Future Accelerators Eligibility Requirements
These are the stated rules on the 2026 form, separated from our interpretation.
| Topic | What the Form States |
|---|---|
| Agentic AI | The programme is for companies building, deploying or enabling agentic AI. Non-agentic applicants are told the programme isn't a fit and offered other DFF programmes. |
| Company stage | No formal minimum stage is stated. The form asks about paid projects, contracts, LOIs or pilot agreements, live deployments and a demo. |
| UAE presence | "A UAE presence is not required to apply." |
| Dubai AI Seal | Priority goes to holders; not holding one "will not disqualify your application." |
| Location | Asks for HQ location; no nationality or location restriction is stated |
| Team on site | If selected, up to two members in leadership or decision-making roles, one responsible for technical changes, both on site for the full programme |
| Data residency | Answering "no" will not automatically disqualify you |
How Closely Does Your Company Match the Current Application?
Our assessment, based on what the form asks for:
| Company Profile | Fit with the Current DCAI Track |
|---|---|
| Agentic AI with live deployments and measurable results | Strong alignment |
| Agentic AI with pilots, contracts or LOIs but no paid deployments yet | Potential fit; evidence will matter |
| Agentic features only on the roadmap | Weak alignment; the form asks about what runs today |
| Traditional (non-agentic) SaaS | Not aligned with this track; watch for other DFF challenges |
| Chatbot-only product | Not aligned; the form explicitly excludes it |
| Idea-stage startup | Limited evidence to answer the form; consider Dtec SANDBOX first |
| Looking for investment | DFA is not a funding programme; see Oraseya Capital |
What Do Startups Actually Get from Dubai Future Accelerators?
This applies to selected companies, not applicants.
What You Get
- Direct work with a Dubai government entity on a real service, including access to its decision-makers (DFF)
- A pilot development opportunity with an agreed scope, pitched to the partner at the end
- Governance and security support from Digital Dubai and the Dubai Electronic Security Center on the 2026 track (DCAI)
- Flights and accommodation for up to two team members
- 0% equity: no shares given up for taking part
- A possible route to a commercial agreement if the partner chooses to move forward
- Government deployment experience that a successful pilot may let you reference, subject to the partner's permission
What You Don't Get
- No cash investment
- No guaranteed government contract, revenue or long-term customer. The form states that participation "may not necessarily result in a signed agreement."
- No guarantee that a pilot becomes procurement
- No NDA at the application stage
- No personalised feedback if you are not selected
- No travel or accommodation beyond two team members
- No published guarantee about who owns IP created during a pilot (see below)
What Does DFA Say About Intellectual Property?
The 2026 application form doesn't publish a detailed IP ownership clause. DCAI's 2025 AI programme page described its zero-equity position as founders keeping complete ownership of their innovation. That should not be read as a blanket rule for IP created during a 2026 government pilot.
Pilot and commercial terms are agreed with the partner entity. Ask how IP developed during the pilot will be treated before you start building.
On confidentiality, the form states that DFF is not entering into an NDA at the application stage. Applicants should not submit trade secrets or commercially confidential information.
What Does Taking Part Cost?
There is no application fee on the form, and DFF covers flights and accommodation for up to two people. You still pay for:
- Staff time during the sprint
- Travel for any additional team members
- Living costs beyond accommodation
- Any UAE licence you need if a pilot leads to a contract
Is a Cohort Currently Open?
The DCAI accelerator page says the accelerator "runs year round, with new cohorts throughout the year", and showed "Apply now" for AI companies on 29 September 2026.
Applications are handled by cohort deadlines, though, not accepted continuously. The application form displayed 15 September as its submission deadline when we checked. Check the live form for the deadline that applies before you start.
No other open DFA challenge was listed when we checked. We track open Dubai programmes in our startup programmes tracker.
What Happened in Earlier DFA Cohorts?
From DFF's previous cohorts page:
| Cohort | Started | Government Entities | Companies | Reported Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2016 | 7 | 30 | 19 agreements |
| 2 | Early 2017 | 12 | 35 | 28 MoUs |
| 3 | Late 2017 | 13 | 47 | 36 MoUs |
| 4 | Early 2018 | Not stated | 37 | 27 MoUs |
| 5 | Late 2018 | 12 | 40 | 26 MoUs |
| 6 | Early 2019 | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| 7 | Early 2020 | Not published | Not published | Not published |
Important: this is not a customer-conversion or revenue figure. The published numbers include MoUs and other agreements. They don't show how many became paid contracts.
These figures suggest many participants in the early cohorts moved to a formal follow-on arrangement with a government entity. In a September 2020 release, DFF reported 14 government entities and 299 startups across its earlier cohorts, working on more than 115 challenges, with over 125 startups signing agreements to test or implement solutions. In 2026, DFF said its programmes had engaged more than 1,000 startups, scale-ups and technology companies through the DFA platform.
How to Apply: Step by Step
These steps are for the 2026 DCAI Agentic AI track.
How to Prepare a Strong Application
The form says evidence and numbers carry more weight than description. Build your application around six things:
- Show one real workflow. Walk through a single task from trigger to outcome: what the agent receives, its steps, the systems it touches, and what it hands back. Don't describe your whole platform.
- Separate agent tasks from human tasks. Choose the autonomy level that runs in production today. Overstating it undermines the rest of the form.
- Give real numbers. Task success rate, accuracy against a benchmark, human-review sampling, hours saved or cycle time. Label estimates as estimates.
- Show the demo. The form says a demo of the agent actually completing a task "carries significant weight in review". Make sure the link is public or includes access details.
- Make the 2-week pilot believable. Scope it around one service, and list the data and system access you'd need, the effort required from the partner, and what success looks like.
- Address government deployment requirements. Cover permission scoping, audit logs, PII handling, UAE data residency, Arabic capability and the deployment models you support.
Also plan who will attend. Both team members must hold decision-making roles, one must be able to make technical changes, and both must stay for the full sprint.
Common Mistakes Applicants Make
- Pitching the product, not the problem. DFA starts from a partner's challenge. Show how you would solve one of their services end to end.
- Calling a chatbot agentic. The form excludes question-answering chatbots from this track.
- Answering for the roadmap. Answer every question for what runs in production today.
- Ignoring data residency. Arrive with a clear answer, even if it's "configurable during the programme".
- Treating a pilot as a contract. Plan cash flow as if paid work may take time to follow, or may not follow at all.
- Submitting trade secrets. With no NDA at the application stage, describe what your system does without disclosing proprietary methods.
Dubai Future Accelerators vs Other Dubai Startup Programmes
| Programme | Main Purpose | Funding | Typical Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai Future Accelerators (DCAI track) | Government pilots | No cash investment | Companies ready for a government use case |
| Dtec SANDBOX | Investment and investor readiness | SAFE investment for Phase 2 startups | Pre-seed to seed tech startups |
| Dubai Founders HQ Accelerator | Corporate pilots and proofs of concept | Not primarily a funding programme | Post-revenue startups |
| in5 | Incubation, subsidised licence and workspace | Not a funding programme | Early-stage startups |
These programmes can be combined. For example, an early-stage agentic AI company could join SANDBOX for capital, then apply to the DCAI track for a government pilot. Our guides to SANDBOX, Dubai Founders HQ and in5 cover each in depth.
Frequently asked questions
What is Dubai Future Accelerators?
It is the Dubai Future Foundation’s challenge-based programme, running since 2016. It pairs technology companies with Dubai government and private-sector partners to co-create and pilot solutions to set challenges.
What does Dubai Future Accelerators actually provide?
Selected companies get direct work with a partner entity on a real challenge, a pilot opportunity pitched to decision-makers, and flights and accommodation for up to two team members. It does not provide cash.
Is Dubai Future Accelerators an investment programme?
No. It offers pilot access with government entities, not capital. For funding, look at investors or at investment programmes such as SANDBOX.
Does Dubai Future Accelerators take equity?
No. DFF describes DFA as a 0% equity programme.
Are flights and accommodation paid?
Yes, for up to two team members of selected companies. Other costs are yours.
How many people can attend?
Up to two people are covered. On the 2026 track, both must hold leadership or decision-making roles, one must be responsible for technical changes, and both must be on site for the full programme.
How long is the programme?
It depends on the track. Earlier DFA cohorts were described as 9 weeks (2018). The 2025 DCAI track sponsored 8 weeks. The 2026 DCAI Agentic AI track is a 2-week in-residence build sprint.
Can a startup outside the UAE apply?
Yes. The 2026 form asks for your HQ location and states that a UAE presence is not required to apply.
Do I need the Dubai AI Seal?
No. Seal holders get priority, but the form states that not holding one will not disqualify your application.
Does a chatbot qualify as agentic AI?
No. The form states that a chatbot that only answers questions is not agentic. The track is for systems that plan multi-step tasks, call tools or APIs, and act in external systems.
What does the application ask for?
Founder details, a company profile, your flagship agentic workflow, the autonomy level in production, performance and safety controls, deployment options, UAE data residency, Arabic capability, up to two case studies, a demo link, a 2-week pilot plan, and a business plan.
Does DFA guarantee a government contract?
No. You pitch a proposal to the partner’s decision-makers, and the partner decides whether to move to a commercial agreement. The 2026 form states that participation may not result in a signed agreement.
Final takeaway
Dubai Future Accelerators is a route to a Dubai government pilot, not to investment.
The current DCAI route covered in this guide focuses on agentic AI. It suits companies whose agents already run in production and who can propose a credible 2-week pilot. Other DFA challenges and DFF programmes may have different requirements.
If you match the current track, build your application around one real workflow, real numbers and a working demo, then apply before the next deadline on the live form. If you’re earlier stage or need capital first, start with our guides to Dtec SANDBOX or pre-seed funding in Dubai. For the policy context, see our explainer on Dubai’s agentic AI plan.
